Question 1

How much screen time is too much for children?

Accepted Answer

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends: no screen time for children under 2 (except video calls), 1 hour per day for ages 2–5, and consistent limits for ages 6+ that prioritise sleep and physical activity. Indian studies show the average child now exceeds these limits by 2–3 hours per day.

Question 2

How do I reduce my family's screen time?

Accepted Answer

Create phone-free zones (dining table, bedrooms), set device curfews (all phones off 1 hour before bed), hold weekly family screen time reviews using iOS Screen Time reports, and model the phone behaviour you want your children to have. Children mirror parental phone habits more than any other behaviour.

Question 3

How does parental screen time affect children?

Accepted Answer

Research from the American Academy of Pediatrics shows children mirror parental phone behaviour closely. Parents who are frequently on their phones during family time raise children with higher screen time, lower verbal interaction skills, and reduced emotional regulation ability.

Question 4

How much time do Indian families actually spend together?

Accepted Answer

With an average of 6–7 hours of daily phone use per adult, families who are home together for 4 hours in the evening may share as little as 30–60 minutes of genuinely screen-free time. Our calculator helps you see your actual number clearly.
